Susan M. Brooks, Ph.D., with her dog Fanta.
From a young age, I developed a fascination with health and medicine, sparked by accompanying my father on hospital rounds to visit his patients and their newborns. I spent countless hours poring over his medical journals, captivated by the colorful charts and graphs illustrating the latest research.
Born with an optimistic outlook, I was fortunate to be mentored by a diverse range of teachers who shaped my approach to healing. During high school, I worked for a florist who was diabetic. She introduced me to natural food methods for blood sugar management. I spent two summers spent with an inspiring elderly couple on a farm in Martha’s Vineyard learning about organic gardening, seed-to-tree cultivation, the nutritional wisdom of Adele Davis, hand-churning ice cream, and meditation. In my twenties, personal health challenges taught me about the body’s remarkable resilience and the interconnection between mind, body, and spirit.
Over the past 40 years as a health practitioner and educator, I’ve had the honor of working with clients and students who, despite facing immense hardships and health crises, continue to thrive through their commitment to living and aging with grace and ease. I partner with those who are deeply invested in optimizing their wellness.
As a lifelong learner, I continue to study and synthesize new health research and to share simple, effective practices for my clients to implement. I create individualized plans that incorporate self-care practices, tailored nutrition and cooking education, and lifestyle choices designed to produce lasting, positive changes in health and vitality. The result is often a profound improvement in well-being, quality of life, and energy levels.
I hold a PhD in Health Sciences, an MS in Exercise Physiology, and am a certified Functional Nutrition and Lifestyle practitioner, and a certified international yoga instructor. Over the years, I’ve worked with diverse populations, including pregnant women, newborns, children, the elderly, homeless individuals, those facing terminal illnesses or mental health challenges, as well as teachers, medical professionals, first responders, and people from many walks of life.
I live with my husband and our ever-present dog, and am the proud mother of a daughter who is a family physician in the Pacific Northwest. When not spending time with family, friends, and clients, you’ll find me hiking the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, developing and cooking new healthy recipes, playing word games, pickleball, harvesting apples, writing, or reading the latest inspiring book.
